Starting this summer, join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a tour of Dundee Balgay Cemetery.
About this event
Join us in a celebration of the remarkable everyday men and women who faced extraordinary times during the world wars and gave their lives for their communities.
MEETING POINT at the waiting room off Glamis Road, just inside the main vehicle entrance to the cemetery.
During the tour you will learn about the history of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and about the heroic actions and self-sacrifice of some of our casualties buried in the cemetery.
The cemetery contains service plots of both wars. Most of the 1914-1918 burials are in a war plot which also contains a Cross of Sacrifice and a Screen Wall memorial, which lists those whose graves are not marked by headstones. Most of the 1939-1945 war burials are scattered.
There are now nearly 150, 1914-1918 and nearly 130, 1939-1945 War casualties commemorated in this site. The Commission also maintains 2 non-war graves on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and 1 French, 1 Dutch and 11 Polish war graves in this site.
Parking available at the waiting room on-site or nearby; On-site facilities, including toilets.
Wheelchair access: The walk will encompass tarmac, gravel and grass paths. There are some steps, by-passable by wheelchairs. Nowhere is steep, but there are slopes.
Please come dressed for the weather and in a suitable walking shoe.
Under 12s may join the tour without a ticket if they are accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
