CWT Online Lecture //Eating Well for People with a Learning Disability
Eighteen years ago The Caroline Walker Trust released nutritional and practical guidelines aimed specifically at supporting people with a learning disability. Alongside the launch of the revised guidelines this autumn, this webinar aims to explore exactly why this resource remains so relevant. Our speakers will discuss the current evidence, practical application and real-world experience of ensuring the nutritional needs of a group who often present with complex challenges are met.
Our speakers are:
Karen Coulman PhD RD, an Associate Professor in Obesity Research and Practice at the University of Bristol. She’ll talk about her latest research into the role of carers in supporting healthy weight for adults with a learning disability.
Nicola Swaffield, a parent carer, will discuss her experience supporting her son’s healthy eating after he moved to a supported living setting.
Carly Atkinson, MSc RD, is a Specialist Learning Disabilities Dietitian. She’ll be discussing the key points from the CWT Eating Well Guide for People with Learning Disabilities, including what to expect and the barriers they face in improving their food intake and diet.
