Cyanotype, Lumen and Anthotype Printing Workshop

By South Square Centre

Overview

Join us for this OUR TURN workshop where you'll learn simple types of photography that don't need a camera or a darkroom.

A hands-on workshop for participants to learn about Cyanotype, Lumen and Anthotype printing. These are simple types of photography that don't need a camera or a darkroom.

You will be able to make a print during the workshop using for example, items from nature (leaves, ferns, flowers and feathers); from things you can find around the house (paper doilies, jewellery, fabrics and toys) or from printed pictures (old photos).

No experience necessary. You will be either able to take your cyanotype or lumen print home, or collect it at a later date washed and fixed from Trapezium Arts.

This workshop is ran by artist Caro Blount-Shah and is held alongside her solo exhibition at Darley St Market named 'Under the Light'.

Caro Blount-Shah is a Bradford-based artist working in print and experimental photography who uses processes like Anthotype, Cyanotype and homemade photographic materials. Under the Light shows paper food plates on the windows of a Cafe.

The Anthotype prints of edible plants are made using light-sensitive plant juices like turmeric, beetroot and spinach. They celebrate foods we can grow and forage for, in natural colours such as yellow, purple and green.

With a bursary from OUR TURN, Caro has experimented with more eco-friendly photographic techniques, testing how natural juices and cotton based paper interact under sunlight and UV light exposure. Caro’s research and hands-on approach will contribute to more sustainable art-making and help others engage with nature and make photographs in creative ways.
