Event description

Description

Come and learn how to make cyanotypes in the surroundings of the beautiful Forest plant shop in Deptford Market Yard.

Cyanotypes are a nineteenth century photographic process using chemicals that produce beautiful blue prints when exposed to sunlight. Working with a range of objects you will create photograms by arranging these on the light sensitive paper.

After an introduction to the process and its history you will be shown how to coat your own paper with cyanotype chemicals. Whilst this is drying you will have an opportunity to make some test prints before using the paper which you have hand coated to create a range of images using sunlight to expose your images and then water to develop them. At the end of the two hour session you will leave with a range of prints.

You’ll also receive a handout at the end of the session recapping the process and detailing a list of suppliers and online resources.

Objects such as plants, glass bottles, buttons, lace will be provided but you are also free to bring your own items to create your image with. Aprons and gloves will also be provided
