About this Event

Adult Creative Workshop: Cyanotypes (Blueprints)

£30

Join us for an introduction to the cyanotype process. Taking and developing photographs would have been a much more physical and hands-on process in Scottish artist E. A. Hornel’s time. For a taste of what this might have been like join us for a day of experimentation with a gorgeous photographic technique. Cyanotype is one of the earliest forms of photography, dating back to 1842. This hands-on workshop will introduce you to making these Prussian blue and white images and will give you all the information and practical experience to be able to do this at home. Through the workshop you will: Gain an overview of the cyanotype process; Explore a number of alternative sources of ‘negative’ to print with; Coat paper with cyanotype chemicals; Practise exposing and developing the paper to produce prints. You will go home with at least one cyanotype print.

Booking is essential

Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring, if you like:

Flat things that you would like to make a print of, up to A5 in size. For example: feathers, leaves/plants, semi-transparent materials, ideas for drawings or paper cut-outs to do on the day, or printouts of photographic images on tracing paper or acetate (printed as a negative).
