Cyber Security – The Challenges Ahead
Fri 7 April 2017, 10:00 – 13:30 BST
Security is an issue for any business, but it is increasingly problematic for SMEs. Threats are becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect, meaning that many organisations are open to attack.
During this event, Stack Group will be exploring the many challenges which businesses face in relation to cyber-security. Presented in partnership with Zerto, Sophos and App Check, our event will cover the topics of ransomware, social engineering and website vulnerabilities.
The event is free to attend and is suitable for IT Managers, Security Managers and Business owners in the North West region. A buffet lunch will be provided on the day.
Recover from Ransomware in Minutes - Darren Swift, Systems Engineer at Zerto Ltd
Ransomware represents a growing problem all over the world, with there being a 550% increase in the number of attacks in 2015-2016, compared to the previous 12 months. The reason for this rise is because it is simple to launch an attack and common for victims to pay the ransom, meaning that criminals can make huge amounts of money – quickly. During this session you will learn the latest on ransomware, the best practices to stop ransomware in its tracks as well as how to recover in minutes.
About the Speaker: Darren is a Systems Engineer at Zerto, with over eight years of experience in the fields of SAN/NAS, Virtualisation, and Disaster Recovery Cloud Technologies. Throughout his career, Darren has helped numerous Fortune 500 companies to achieve their corporate goals.
Social Engineering - Don’t be a victim of cyber-crime! - Nick Ross, Engineer, Sophos
In order to enhance their success, hackers are increasingly using social engineering to exploit the weakest point in your security – people. Psychological techniques can be used to manipulate individuals to carry out actions which result in malware being activated. Cyber-criminals frequently play on feelings such as fear, urgency and curiosity. During this session Nick will be discussing the art of social engineering, some of the tools that cyber criminals are using in order to exploit our data, as well as some practical steps to protect the integrity of your systems.
About the Speaker: Nick is an engineer with Sophos. He has been working in IT for over 16 years and he is enthusiastically passionate about IT security, best practice and end user education.
