Event description

Learn more about cyber skills in an interactive shared learning experience. Skills Development Scotland will bring alive cyber security skills as part of a hands on lesson that can be streamed directly into your classroom.

Get hands on and learn digital skills, ask the experts questions, and share your work with hundreds of other learners across the country live.

No special software is required to take part – all you need is access to the Internet and a modern web browser. No previous technical knowledge or computing coding skills are required.

Lesson 1: Cracking One Million Passwords

Passwords prevent other people from accessing our computers, our personal emails, or important websites. In this lesson, you’ll step into the shoes of a cyber criminal and use computer code to attempt to “crack” a massive collection of passwords. Afterwards you’ll learn top tips about protecting yourself from this type of cyber attack.

This lesson is inspired by a recent real-life cyber incident when 117 million usernames and passwords from LinkedIn were dumped online.

This live session will be broadcast via GLOW for all schools to access and further information on how to join the meeting will be emailed to everyone nearer the time.

These sessions will be recorded if you are unable to attend live. They will be made available on GLOW at a later date in the Cyber Resilience area.

Note - individual pupils do not need to register to attend, teachers will register for full class.
