Event description

Description

Research last year showed that at the time, fraud against small and medium sized businesses costs £35,000 on average.

At our next breakfast, Anthony McGhie, Digital Engagement Manager at Barclays, will explain cyber-crime and what you need to know about social engineering, common cyber threats and steps you can take to help protect yourself and your business.

Last year Barclays launched a campaign to help SMEs tackle cybercrime having seen a rise in sophisticated fraud with criminals targeting small and medium sized businesses. This includes using “social engineering,” with emails or phone calls impersonating people such as suppliers, staff members or even the CEO, tricking victims into giving out information or making payments as well as intercepting emails and sending fake invoices.

The good news is that the vast majority of fraud against businesses can be easily prevented and we will learn about some of the simple steps to take during this practical briefing.
