About this event

Science & Tech • High Tech

In this virtual workshop, designed specifically for West Highland businesses, Cyber Threat Intelligence Professional Josh will break down what you need to know and do to protect your business from cyber threats.

We’re also joined by Theresea and Norman from the Cyber and Fraud Centre Scotland, an organisation with extensive expertise, experience, and support available to organisations across Scotland that will be of real interest to West Highland Chamber of Commerce members. With both Norman and Theresea available, we’re delighted to extend the session to a full hour so they can share valuable resources and services available to Chamber members—with Norman also offering guidance on what businesses should do if they ever find themselves under attack.

Whether you’re running a café in Oban, a guesthouse in Skye, or a shop in Fort William, your business being connected to the internet makes cybersecurity relevant. The good news is: there are simple, practical steps you can take right now to safeguard your livelihood.

Josh will cover the essentials:

  • Introduction to cybersecurity (in plain English)
  • What good cyber hygiene looks like
  • Your responsibilities as a business owner
  • The myth that small businesses aren’t targeted
  • Recent cyberattack trends relevant to small businesses in the West Highlands
  • Cybersecurity basics: the minimum every business should be doing
  • Going beyond the basics: how to advance your cyber maturity
  • Practical steps you can take today

They will share key resources, services, and emergency contacts Scottish SMEs can access—so you know exactly where to turn if your business ever faces a cyber incident.

The session runs for 60 minutes, with a 45 minutes presentations followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.

Bring your questions and leave with steps you can take straight away.

The Zoom link will be sent the day before the event and again on the morning of the event.
