Understanding the business model of cyber crime

Topic Description:

As the threat landscape constantly changes, cybercrime is big business. The global average cost of cyber-crime is growing steadily despite the climbing security budgets. However, according to NCSC very few people are aware of the extent of the online criminal ecosystem that supports and enables cyber-attacks, and the business model behind it. Professor Benson outlines how cyber criminals are organised and motivated, their methods of reconnaissance and attacks, through to the process of monetising cybercrime returns. Gaining a better understanding of the cybercrime business models helps decision makers determine the cybersecurity budget priorities and foster cyber-aware culture.
