Cycle of migration

Cycle of Migration is a unique legislative theatre performance that blends real-life experiences with creative expression and policymaking. Through powerful storytelling and interactive scenes, the performance invites audiences to become active partipants by engaging with the challenges faced by people navigating the immigration process and be part of policymaking.

Developed from Pinar Aksu’s research, Art and Law in Migration: art practices for social change and access to justice, this thought-provoking event transforms theatre into an space for dialogue, reflection, and action.

Important points to note

• This event is suitable for age 16+
• Content warning: Please note that this event may contain references to migration, isolation, impact on mental health and wellbeing which some individuals may find distressing.
• Filming: Livestreaming and photography may take place at this event. Please let a member of the RSE Public Engagement team know if you do not want to be photographed. Recorded events will be made available on the RSE YouTube channel.
• Covid-19: If you would like to wear a face mask, please feel comfortable to do so at our events. Please be mindful of other participants and stay at home if you have Covid symptoms or have tested positive for Covid-19.

SPEAKER

Pinar Aksu

Researcher, University of Glasgow

Pinar Aksu is a researcher at the University of Glasgow, and a theatre maker. Her research explores ‘Art and Law in migration: using art practices for social change and access to Justice’. She is interested in finding connections between solidarity, art, justice, and the law. With years of experience as a Human Rights and Advocacy Coordinator, Pinar is scholar as well as activist involved with campaigns and projects supporting people seeking asylum and refuge, social justice and human rights. Currently looking at Right to Work-Lift the Ban for people seeking asylum, ending hotel detention and community connections. Pinar is also involved in using theatre and creative methods to create social change.

The play is performed by a group of theatre makers and members of the community.

The RSE’s free Curious festival of knowledge is back, from Saturday 6 − Saturday 14 September 2025!
