Event description

Description

This conference is intended to provide an opportunity for professionals to learn more about two areas which are having an impact on the design of cycling and walking infrastructure and which need to be included in the Local Walking and Cycling Plans: making cycling inclusive for all; planning neighbourhoods around people rather than cars.

Cllr Waseem Zaffer MBE will open the conference by talking about the challenges facing the West Midlands from congestion and air pollution.

The morning session will focus on designing for inclusive cycling, learning about how Cycling Projects and Midland Mencap help people with disabilities access cycling, and then Alex Ingram from Wheels for Wellbeing will introduce their design guidance for inclusive cycle infrastructure.

The afternoon session will focus on the concept of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, created by Living Streets and the London Cycling Campaign to condense the lessons learnt from London’s mini-Holland schemes. David Harrison, from Living Streets, will introduce the concept of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, and then there will be a workshop to explore applying those principles to parts of the West Midlands, discussing the potential issues and how to overcome them.

This conference is organised by Push Bikes for Cyclenation and Cycling UK.

The discount code for local authority officers is: CouncilDiscount

Registration opens at 10:00.

The morning session will start at 10:30.

The afternoon session will start at 13:20.
