Event description

Description

Staff are invited to two cycling forums this month to discuss ideas with existing cyclists and anyone who would like to commute by bike instead of by car to reduce congestion and improve air quality in the city.

Currently we have:

  • Cycle storage - 1,639 cycle storage spaces for staff and students, including 196 covered spaces in a cage with swipe card or padlock access, and 135 covered spaces with open access

  • Shower facilities - Staff can use the shower facilities at Spinnaker Sports Centre and St Paul’s Gym for free. Please contact Sport and Recreation directly if you’re not already members. There are an additional 10 individual showers in a variety of campus buildings, and changing rooms with showers will also be available at the City Learning Centre (former Highbury College building) later this year.

There are also plans to launch a Cycle to Work scheme for staff.

Staff will be asked three key questions at the cycling forums, which have been organised in response to feedback from the car parking consultation earlier this year:

  • What extra facilities could help cyclists?

  • What are the best locations for cycling facilities?

  • What would encourage other staff to cycle?

The events will include a short presentation by Bernie Topham (Chief Operating Officer & Deputy Vice-Chancellor) and Ian McCormack (Energy & Environmental Manager in Estates and Campus Services), before opening the floor for questions and ideas.
