About this event

D Day Commemorative Art History Lecture Series: Canvas and Courage – Artistic Reflections on War and Resilience

7-8.15pm

Northampton Museum & Art Gallery

In commemoration of the D-Day anniversary, we invite you to join us for an exploration of art in the shadow of war offering a powerful testament to the role in navigating and transcending this dark period of our shared history.

This 3-week series embarks on a poignant exploration of war through the lens of the artist, beginning with a session on D-Day and Operation Overlord as captured by profession, commissioned and amateur artists. Next, we spotlight some of the personal narratives of amateur artists from the warfront. Finally, we explore how art was a means of post-conflict restoration, emphasizing its role in healing, reconciliation and fostering discussions on peace and remembrance.
