About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

The Data and Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure (DAFNI), launched in July 2021, provides world-leading infrastructure systems research capabilities to upload and collaborate on the development of infrastructure data and models. DAFNI supports the testing and exploring scenarios as well as linking together model outputs to explore the cascading outcomes of triggers such as environmental change or key policy decisions.

This event will provide the basics to use DAFNI in your own projects.

    Course content:

    1. You will be introduced to the DAFNI platform and given an overview of its capabilities.
    2. You will learn how to upload data and models to the DAFNI community.
    3. You will learn how to create a DAFNI "workflow", which brings together models with datasets/run parameters and allows them to be executed on the platform.
    4. You will see a demonstration of how to visualise the outputs from your model.

    Target audience

This training is for people who have some technical experience and wish to explore DAFNI as a way of collaborating on or sharing their modelling work. Most of our users are infrastructure researchers or model developers, who may already have an existing infrastructure model, or maybe taking their first steps into infrastructure model development.

The training will be hands-on and conducted remotely over Zoom, using an online training platform, so a computer and Internet connection will be required during the event as well as another screen so you can watch the instructions and complete the steps on your laptop.

DAFNI: Data & Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure - a UKCRIC facility

DAFNI is the National Platform to satisfy the computational needs in support of data analysis; infrastructure research; and strategic thinking for the UK’s long term planning and investment needs. The platform will support academic research that is aiming to provide the UK with a world leading infrastructure system that is more: efficient, reliable, resilient and affordable. It will achieve this by enabling the research community to conduct research that is able to generate new insights at a higher level of detail and accuracy than ever before.
