Researchers in the Digital Age: Skills, approaches and networks to inform your Research, Teaching and Career

Researchers in the Digital Age is a day-long event for Arts and Humanities researchers at the University of Bristol, supported by the South West & Wales and Midlands 3 Cities AHRC Doctoral Training Partnerships.

Confirmed speakers include Alex Mecklenberg (Digital Leadership Programme Lead at Dot Everyone) and Dr Jenny Lee (Museums & Public Galleries Digital Coach for European-funded Cultivator initiative, and Digital Coordinator at Cornwall Museums Partnership).

Researchers in the Digital Age will include provocations and input from leading digital specialists. It will bring you together to share your digital skills, knowledge and ideas, and develop your network of fellow researchers.

The agenda for this day has been informed by the needs and interests of the Digital Summer School applicants and participants, and will be facilitated by Bird & Gorton.

This event is part of the Doctoral Training Partnerships’ commitment to exploring how digital skills development is made available to arts and humanities PhD researchers. We hope that you will be inspired to disseminate your knowledge at your home institution and beyond.

Travel & Accommodation

We recommend that students from outside Bristol stay overnight on the 13th September, to ensure that everyone is present for registration, but recognise that this may not be possible for everyone.

SWW students will be able to claim for their travel expenses; those coming from Aberystwyth will also be able to claim for 1 night's accommodation.

M3C students can claim for their travel and accommodation using the SDF - please ensure you have submited your application in time for the August deadline.

Bristol has plenty of options for accommodation, though they tend to be expensive. The most abundant afforable options are likely to be Airbnbs.

Closing Celebration

This is the last stage of the DAHSS project so we're going to want to celebrate with everyone! We'll organise a venue for drinks and dinner (details to be announced as soon as we know them!). Your drinks/meals will need to be self-funded.

You will be asked to confirm whether you wish to join us for this so we have an idea of numbers. If the venue asks us to pay a deposit, we will organise a way of collecting this from everyone who attends and let you know.

DAHSS Network

The DAHSS project involves lots of people, and lots of email adresses; to make things simpler for us, and more interactive for you, we've created a Trello board for the project which you will be invited to join. Please create an account (if you don't already have one) and join the DAHSS Network board. We want this to be a space for you to share ideas, resources, opportunities and hope it will outlast the end of the project.

For those not familiar with Trello, it's like a electronic version of a Kanban board - you divide a board into lists and add "Post-It Notes" with tasks or information to them, and can move the notes from one list to another. It's designed for project management (we find it handy for this project and our PhDs too), but is also great for sharing info! Trello is very intuitive and doesn't take much learning - but there is plenty of help available on their website.

Important: Trello is a very open way of working. Everyone on the Trello team can see your comments so if you need to discuss something that needs to be more private, drop us an email.
