About this Event

The Dala Horse Carving Day

Here’s another Award-Winning Course from Explore the Great Outdoors, Winners of the Best Woodland Courses 2019.

The Dala Horse is a traditional symbol of Sweden. These horses were carved by men working in the forests during long winter evenings and brought back to the village for the children to play with. This is how the little wooden horse from Dalarna became a treasured object. These simple wooden horses were later painted in bright colours inspired by the flower patterns painted on furniture and walls in the region.

During your time spent with us you will learn how to carve a Dala Horse.

Your tutors will pass on the knowledge they have gained from their time spent studying the art of wood carving with the world-famous Swedish master craftsman Jögge Sundqvist.

This course runs from our semi ancient woodland site near Warminster from 9.30am to 4pm with a half hour break for lunch.

Minimum age is 18, younger students are allowed by prior arrangement please call us to discuss.

The kettle is always on for tea and coffee, we also provide a light lunch; vegetable soup and warm bread for all participants.

We are based in the Southwest of England in easy reach from Bristol, Bath, Salisbury, Southampton, Chippenham, Swindon, and London.
