The annual social event where the Dales Club (DHPC) welcomes flyers from around the world to enjoy the beauty of God's Own Country from the air (in the day) and from around a big fire (in the evening).
Guided flights back to site, site guides, coaches on hand, task sign-offs, stimulating talks from top flyers (if we're not flying), groundhandling races, harness hanger, porosity testing, Ginger Nomad store on site, plenty of wonderful flying folks to amuse you.
Overall, a convivial, supportive atmosphere with lovely hills and pubs around.
Entry fee affords individual entry with a camping spot for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. You're welcome to bring a carvan or motorhome, for which there is no additional fee, but every individual will need a ticket.
You can arrive on the Wednesday, but would need to pay an additional £25 for the nights stay on arrival.
Whilst sadly now the X-Dales has been cancelled for this year, we expect, weather permitting, one or several of the options below to go ahead open to all Fly-In participants.
1. A shortened hike and fly race (note it's a race). It will be approx 20k in length and offers lots of flying opportunities regardless of wind direction. The usual X Dales trophies will be awarded. The usual Risk Assessment statement will be signed on the day. No need to register, we'll do on the day.
2. Given a flyable day a local ridge task may be set and scored.
3. A glide angle competition from high summit should it be too light to soar.
4. A wing control challenge (ground handling) at the Settle base if too fresh to fly a ridge.
(Small prizes awarded for 2,3,4)
5. Coaching opportunities to talks
The idea is to offer as many incentives, challenges and flying related things to take part in over the weekend. You do not need to register or pay beyond the normal Fly-In event. A briefing will takes place at the start of each day and details taken then. It will be a very relaxed format: you turn up, decide what if any of the tasks you wish to be involved in and we take it from there. There will be experienced local coaches and pilots providing guidance and oversight.
