About this event
Join us for a virtual gathering where we travel to the eighteenth-century and enjoy entertainment, food, drink and gossip in elegant outdoor settings. We’ll visit mainly Vauxhall but we will also touch on Ranelagh, Mary-le-Bone, Bagnigge Wells and others.
Sarah will be telling you about the history of pleasure gardens during the Georgian era and of what those attending got up to, the fashions, the music and the scandals in dark corners!
Paul will be showing you what would have been eaten from the comfort of your supper box in Vauxhall. He’ll take you through an entire Vauxhall menu with such delights as thinly-sliced ham, cold chicken, cheesecake, sweet pastries and Shrewsbury cakes with live demonstrations from his kitchen. Good plain English food and the beginning of catering for the masses.
You will leave with a workbook complete with details of the presentation, recipes and ingredients for you to create your own Vauxhall meal at home.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. We record the class and all participants will receive the class materials and will get a recording of the live class sent one day after it finishes.
Perhaps. But there will be the delight of coming together with people who are just as passionate about food and history as you are, from all over the world. There will be opportunities to share what you know too.
If for whatever reason you cannot make the class there will be a recording made of all the sessions so you can still enjoy the class at your own place at a time that suits you. You'll receive this automatically.
Because we'll be offering replays and workshop materials to all attendees whether they attend live or not we can’t offer a refund if you can’t make the live section of the course or if you have technical difficulties on the day.
Please contact Paul at paul.g.couchman@gmail.com for any questions you may have.
