Event Details

The Hammer Dulcimer is a very romantic sounding instrument, reminiscent of Harps.

We are delighted to welcome Damian for this romantic concert in our intimate gallery setting, to play songs and tunes ranging from beautiful Celtic Harp tunes, to traditional songs with a romantic slant, to modern day pop songs.

The concert will follow a pre-show supper, please book and pre-pay for your meal to ensure you have a seat.

Damian Clarke – Rare multi-instrumentalist and singer

Damian Clarke has just released his third solo CD and he continues his mission to increase the public’s awareness of the wonderful Hammer Dulcimer and Hurdy Gurdy. He is currently the only touring performer of these instruments who also sings. An international entertainer; his concerts are a multi-faceted show, with stories and sing-alongs, history and romance.

His instruments provide a refreshing change of sound and yet are familiar and fascinating to listen to. Damian has toured in over 12 countries, made 9 albums, and played everywhere from television to theatres, from international folk festivals to street fairs. He is also well known for his performances with the rock-folk band, PRESSGANG which he founded in 1986.

Travel information:-

We are a city centre venue and parking can be in short supply.  If you are driving, please make sure you leave plenty of time to find a space click here for a map of where the nearest parking spaces can be found.

We recommend Kings Park Road car park:
We are about 10 minutes walk from Southampton City Centre train station (head up the hill toward the Guildhall clock tower) and on the route for most city centre buses (the Unilink U1 stops virtually outside.)

 Accessibility info:-

Events are generally suitable for adults, young people and older children - children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, however. Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems and songs may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!)

Most events are held on our first floor, accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner. Comformatable seating is provided.  We regret that, due to space and other constraints, we are generally unable to relocate our events to the ground floor for those who require ground level access - so sorry.
