About this event

Arts • Dance

Choreographed by Guru, Gayatri Sriram, Dwaitam explores the concept of duality through the traditional Margam format of Bharatanatyam. The production delves into fundamental opposites such as light and dark, Jeevatma and paramatma (soul/self and god), Hari and Hara, and the masculine-feminine balance of Ardhanarishwara. Through the structured sequence of a Margam, Dwaitam presents these themes in a way that is deeply rooted in tradition while remaining relevant and engaging for contemporary audiences.

Varun Shivakumar embarked on his journey with Bharatanatyam at the age of five under the guidance of Smt. Gayatri Sriram and his Parama Guru, Karnataka Kalashree Smt. Minal Prabhu has been a dedicated student at Shruthi Laya School of Dance in Singapore for the last 15 years. He completed his Arangetram in the summer of 2022. He has performed in esteemed sabhas such as Sri Krishna Gana Sabha’s Ilamayil Thiramai Series, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Narada Gana Sabha, and the Kalakshetra Foundation. He has won many awards recognizing him as a promising young dancer, including the 'Best Performer Award 2024' from Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha. Now residing in the UK, 19-year-old Varun continues to deepen his artistic journey as a student of Carnatic music under Vidwan Sri Bharat Sundar.
