About this Event

Dance Festival Croydon 2019 showcases and celebrates contemporary dance.

Event 2 of the festival is at Stanley Halls on 20 July 2019, featuring Jose Agudo and Uchenna Dance from 7-8.30pm in the theatre.

Jose Agudo brings excerpts from his acclaimed work, Silk Road. The work combines the vocabulary of flamenco, kathak and contemporary dance to tell the story of the famed silk road that traversed different geographies and culture. It connected the east to the west.

Uchenna Dance will present an excerpt from their amusing and though provoking work, The Head Wrapped Diaries. It is a work about afro-hair, told through a unique blend of House, Waacking and Vogue fused with African and Contemporary dance, accompanied by a specially commissioned soundtrack of Afro house, folk, electronic dance music, jazz and Ghana gospel.

The events starts by showcasing work from the Girls In Front project coordinated by Dance Umbrella in partnership with Palace for Life Foundation. A free, fun and empowering dance project for girls aged 11-18 years in Croydon.

Before the show in the theatre there will be an excting performance-parkour physical theatre work by multi-award winning The Urban Playground Team, Brit is Zoo Humans. The performance will be outdoors in the Harris Academy grounds, next to Stanley Halls, at 5pm. The audience will be able to try some of the performance-parkour moves after the performance.
