Dance of Life - Conscious Movement and Dance

Come join us for an evening of Conscious Movement and Dance at the Summerhill Bowling Club! Let's move our bodies, express ourselves, and connect with others through the power of dance. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or just looking to let loose and have fun, this event is for you. Embrace the Dance of Life and experience the joy of movement in a welcoming and inclusive environment. See you on the dance floor!

In this session, we will dance with a map of a circle of the elements, Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Ether.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the session for?

The session is open to anyone who wants to explore dancing consciously, as an embodied, mindful meditation. Whether you are new to conscious movement or have a lot of experience at dancing, you are welcome to join. In general, the sessions are open to adults over 18 years of age.

How to take care of myself?

The dance can be energetic and physically strenuous. Listen to your body and dance at an energy level that is healthy and safe for you. Dance of Life is powerful medicine; it may be a deep dance and feelings may arise. Your body is your guide… Follow your own energy and tempo… respect your limits.

How can I support my self-care practically?

All instructions for exercises and activities are invitations: adapt them to the needs of your body and always feel free to opt out. Take care of your body in movement. Pay attention to your sense of space and proximity. Dress in layers. Dance at your own pace. No need to push, no need to hold back.

Can I come dancing when I'm ill?

Please use integrity in deciding whether to come and dance. If you recently had contact with someone COVID-positive, if you feel unwell or if you have symptoms of COVID-19 (high temperature, continuous cough, loss of sense of smell or taste), please refrain from coming to the dance session.

Will there be physical contact between dancers?

Please respect other dancers’ space and choices, when it comes to hugs and physical contact. We may have exercises that can involve safe physical contact. In that case, the receiving person declares what contact the receiving person wants. I ask that these requests and boundaries are respected.

How are we dealing with consent and boundaries?

Together we co-create a safe space by respecting ourselves, respecting other dancers’ personal space and boundaries, and ensuring clear consent for any interactions.

Dance like nobody's watching?

Be yourself! Freestyle dance is a great opportunity for self-expression, letting go of inhibitions and the fear of being judged. To support our aim of "dance like nobody's watching", we ask that you do not take photos or sit and watch others.

Dancing without chatter?

No chatter during the dance. There's a welcome opportunity for friendly hellos and chat before the opening circle. After that it's a distraction from the deep dive into the experience of dancing, connecting with others through movement.

What should I wear?

No street shoes please. Barefoot or dance trainers recommended as socks are too slippy, but some with grippy pads are fine. Wear whatever you like, simply comfortable and/or fancy, it's up to you. Layers are best as it can get pretty hot on the floor as the energy builds, then cooling again.

Can I smudge myself or wear strong perfumes?

Please refrain from wearing strong perfumes or scented products to respect others' sensitivities.

Is this a sober space?

It's an alcohol-free space. An opportunity to dance the true you in a supportive, non-judgemental environment. Bring a bottle of water or juice.
