Event description
DANCELIVE FESTIVAL IS BACK returning in-person and online this October

About this event

After a successful fully digital festival in 2020, DanceLive returns live to Aberdeen from 14 - 17 October. The 17th iteration of the festival will include online, indoor and outdoor performances.

Festival acts include Born to Protest from Just Us Dance Theatre , an outdoor hip-hop work that highlights black excellence and challenges racial stigma, and Burnt Out from Penny Chivas , a new solo dance theatre work centred around our changing climate, straight from positive acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

DanceLive will also see the world premiere of specially commissioned outdoor work My Friends Take Care of Me from Corina Wilson & Fleur Darkin (previously Artistic Director at Scottish Dance Theatre). Elisabeth Schillings' Invisible Dances, which has toured around the world, will also make a surprise appearance during the festival weekend.

Screen.dance will continue its partnership with Citymoves and showcase three curated programmes: a retrospective commemorating one of the Scottish pioneers of screen dance and one of the founders of Screen.dance Festival, Simon Fildes (1962-2021); a collective moving image homage to the contemporary dance diva Margaret Morris (1891–1980); and a selection of new and recent Scottish screen dance works drawn from an open juried call.

Audiences can expect to see a wealth of Scottish and UK talent popping up around the city centre and performing indoors in a socially distant set-up within the Anatomy Rooms.

DanceLive will also continue to build on partnerships with other Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire based institutions. Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums will feature specially commissioned performances from featured DanceLive choreographers, while Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) will host performances in Music Hall Aberdeen and The Lemon Tree.

Citymoves are delighted to also be working with the Barn in Banchory on a new programme curated by Lucy Cash and Luke Pell. A crossover with Sound Festival , which takes place the weekend after DanceLive on 19-24 October, will see performance groups dance to commissioned tracks from soundfestival composers. More information can be found at https://thebarnarts.ticketsolve.com/shows/1173616017

The full programme for #DanceLive21 can be found at www.citymoves.org.uk/dancelive

A selection of performances will have BSL interpretation: please see the Citymoves website for programme times.
