Exclusive to Guernsey; pre- release full screening of Crazywise, the US documentary set to bring positive change to the Western mental health system in 2017…
A Q+A Skype session with Gogo Ekhaya Esima, star of the film, will follow the screening
Crazy…or wise? The traditional wisdom of indigenous cultures often contradicts modern views about a mental health crisis. Is it a ‘calling’ to grow or just a ‘broken brain’? The documentary CRAZYWISE explores what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformative experience.
CRAZYWISE follows two young Americans diagnosed with “mental illness.” Adam, 27, suffers devastating side effects from medications before embracing meditation in hopes of recovery. Ekhaya, 32, survives childhood abuse and several suicide attempts before spiritual training to become a traditional South African healer gives her suffering meaning and brings a deeper purpose to her life.
This one- off event will be hosted by Thrive2020 speaker Katie Mottram, Founding Director of the International Spiritual Emergence Network (ISEN) . Katie will also facilitate a workshop on: ‘An introduction to a more empowering approach to mental distress as a transformative process’ on Tuesday 24th Jan from 9.30am (Please email: email@example.com for further information)
When & Where
The Dandelion Foundation
The underlying motivation behind The Dandelion Foundation is to bring the community together to help create a better place for us all to live.
Every islander already has the potential to offer our community something to help our community to move forward in some way. The Dandelion Foundation aims to release that potential.
The world is changing every day. Making a big difference at our community level no longer requires the resources that only government is capable of delivering. The capability of small groups of people to make a real difference is already here and that provides us with a fantastic opportunity.
There has never been a better time for a community like Guernsey to unite to inspire bold action. Guernsey is both a town and a country. It is the perfect societal model to come together to try out new ideas for the benefit of the local population.
It is early days in terms of the project. At the moment it is very much about the bringing together of a large group of islanders that believe that we are capable of something more.
