A series of talk to complement the Dante 700th Exhibition and Events on Dante Alighieri and his times.
About this event
Dante 101
Durante Alighieri, born in Florence in 1265 and known simply as Dante, revolutionized both poetry and language in his lifetime. But how much do we actually know about his home, work, family, friendships, and loves?
In this lecture we will explore what we know of his childhood and early adulthood as an active participant in the political and cultural life of Florence, including his conspicuous relationships with everyone from important international figures to the neighbourhood nobles (including Beatrice).
After an examination of his early works, we will delve into the Comedy and the autobiography we find within.

#Dante700th London
On DanteDi '(Dante's National Day) we announced the opening of the portal for the presentation of artistic proposals for the call to arts in honour of Dante's celebrations in London, from 25 March until 30 June 2021.
The link to access the initiative is on the Dante Society London page dedicated to Dante700th.
Artists of any discipline and from all over the world are invited to present their proposals on the basis of their 'Dante's' interpretation: paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, video, music, poetry, theatre, installations, combined arts. The exhibition will take place in London during September 2021 and will include parallel music and poetry reading events.
Island2IslandArt in partnership with the Dante Society London have launched the creative initiative to celebrate the memory of the father of the Italian language and his poetic genius with an invitation to international artists to explore and interpret Dante's writing and its relevance for the 21st century.
The initiative has received the patronage of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Florence (Dante's hometown) and the Municipality of Ravenna (Dante's home), who will virtually promote us on their Dante 700 network and exhibit the works in virtual mode.
"London One Radio" has always been ready to spread ideas, initiatives, personalities linked to Italian culture and has kindly offered its patronage to our initiative. A jury will award the "London One Radio Prize" whose winner will be invited for a live interview to speak about their art and love for Dante.
The exhibition is curated by Rita Carta Manias & Santy Masciaro'.
