About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Ready to transform your roll of film into a beautiful hand printed silver gelatin photograph? Get stuck in with our fully equipped darkroom, learning the inner workings of an enlarger and the chemical processes, gaining hands-on experience of printing from your own negatives.

We keep our class sizes small to allow for a more one-to-one experience with your teaching artist and for you to really develop your skills. Perfect for those that are new to darkroom printing or just need a refresher.

Who is the workshop for?

This course is best suited to those who need a bit of a refresher on darkroom printing or those who are totally new to doing it themselves. Either way, you can expect to leave this workshop having created a beautiful hand printed photograph.

Do I need to bring anything?

Ideally, you need to have exposed and processed your own roll of film beforehand, so understanding how to shoot with film is important prior to this workshop. Should you need support with this, our Analogue Photowalk is a great opportunity to get to grips with shooting film. If you do not have access to an analogue camera, our tutor will gladly offer up one of their negatives for you to print from.

Emily set up The Art House's Darkroom in 2021 and within her role as Darkroom Coordinator, she continues to support people in realising and celebrating traditional and contemporary analogue photography techniques.
