Keynote Speaker: Angus M. Marshall BSc CEng MBCS CITP MFSSoc FRSA
Angus is a former computer science and Internet computing lecturer who now works full-time as a digital evidence specialist. He is the UK’s principal expert on digital evidence to the ISO/IEC information security committee and acts as an adviser on national consultative groups on digital evidence standards and research funding. He is also a visiting fellow at the Open University where he has helped to produce a new course on digital evidence and advises on and participates in research. He is registered as a specialist adviser with the National Crime Agency as is regularly called on to provide evidence for prosecution cases and to provide assistance to police high-tech crime units. Other clients include the Home Office, trading standards departments, solicitors, a variety of businesses and other forensic science companies.
He has stated that he is the one person you never want to see on the premises, because it means something has gone horribly wrong.
He is also a member of the Crime Writers’ Association (he has written his own book, is a regular columnist in Digital Forensics Magazine and is an occasional adviser to writers such as Val McDermid and Lynda La Plante) and is disturbingly passionate about classic British sports cars.
Angus will be sharing some (anonymised) case studies of the work he has done for businesses over the years, showing how forensic examination revealed shortcomings in information security which led to significant losses for the businesses. He will also discuss how some of the problems could have been avoided, or mitigated.
