Event description

Description

RecDoTech has its first Data meetup coming to Amsterdam.

We have three expert Data professionals, from leading international businesses, presenting topics of their interest. You can expect insightful talks, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions in the Q&A session.

Our events are an excellent opportunity to network with industry experts and like-minded people. If you have been thinking about moving into data engineering, have an interest in backend development and programming, or just have some questions, then this is the meetup for you!

Also, we are giving away prizes to attendees along with free food and refreshments.

Data in MotionWilliam Louth, Big Data Architect, Autoletics and NIKE

Williams talk will focus on how event streams can be used to reconstruct actual behaviour a scientist or data engineer wishes to observe, inspect, filter, and transform.

It will describe how such an approach allows you to (re)construct a mirrored world of different observable phenomenon. To be more specific; William will explore episodic machine memories that can be processed online or offline, within the same space (process) or a simulated version.

William is renowned software product designer/developer and an experienced systems engineer with expertise in self-adaptive software runtimes and adaptive control to name just a few. He recently worked at Quby where his responsibilities included the management and redesign of the data pipeline between the Toon (smart thermostat) and cloud-based backend services.

Purity: Pain-Free Pure code in ScalaFrancisco Arámburo, Senior Software Developer TNT

We have all been sold the promises of Functional Programming, and how being completely pure enables us to create exceptional systems. But how can we put this into practice using Scala?

Francisco’s talk will showcase Purity, a growing library with a set of FP goodies to help you create pure, type-safe code easily in Scala.

Francisco has an extensive background in Software engineering in the Netherlands. He has worked on large-scale research, development and deployment of projects including, sentiment analysis, recommender systems and system architecture.

Building data Py-plines: Data Engineering at TravelBird using Python Rob Winters, Head of Data Science + Niels Roosen, Data Science Engineer at TravelBird.nl

Why use Python for data engineering? Through its rich ecosystem, you can develop flexible and scalable environments, allowing your data scientists to contribute to your data pipelines directly. In this talk, we will discuss how TravelBird uses Python to build and grow a data environment which handles tens of millions of records per day in real time and allows easy integration between AWS and external services, traditional databases, NoSQL systems, and predictive models built in Spark.

Rob and Niels will be speaking together as part of our last presentation.
