Data ethics is becoming central for information management discussions

Data ethics is becoming an important consideration in the holistic management of an organisations' information management. This includes both private and non-private data and thinking about all the implications of collection, use and disposal. We know, with scandals like Cambridge Analytica and Facebook, that the public backlash from misuse is severe.

Organisations with visionary leaders are now actively commissioning new roles and work in this area. In act, the EU has now released guidelines and organisations are putting these into practice. This short course introduces some of these important issues.

Detailed Syllabus:

Join us for this three-hour workshop, we will

  • Explore the background to Data Ethics Governance

  • Consider the Data Ethics debate and the legal and philosophical issues

  • Review existing regulation and standards

  • Discuss Public concerns and expectations

  • Take an opportunity to understand

  • Definitions of data ethics

  • Data Ethics Governance

  • Bias and fairness in analytics and algorithmic analysis and assessment

  • Intersection with the GDPR including transparency and accountability

  • Good data handling

  • Frameworks for systems design and deployment

Outcome: Delegates will be able to understand the principles of data ethics, the reasons for design as well as the core elements that should be considered as part of wider governance.

Audience: CxO or equivalent senior leaders, HR Professionals, Compliance and Risk Professionals, Non-Executive Directors, those responsible for input to Digital Strategies, Target Operating Models and Business Model Creation.

Workshop Leaders:

Ivana Bartoletti, Head of Privacy and Data Protection Gemserv will lead the workshop. Ivana regularly works with organisations creating practical frameworks around ethics and privacy to help businesses bring their values to life in a digital world. This is particularly relevant in the era of big data. She works across all sectors, and also focus on the privacy challenges surrounding the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. She co-founded Women Leading in AI Network, a lobby group of women from different backgrounds aimed to mobilise the tech industry and politics to set clear governance around AI so that it works for everyone and is constrained by our human values. She is also a keynote speaker at industry events in the UK, commenting in national media such as the BBC and Guardian and also works internationally with organisations such as the OECD and UNESCO.

Alexsis Wintour works with organisations facing digital changes, intense competition, as well as ongoing compliance and regulatory upgrades. She helps them make sense of the resulting technology challenges whilst giving equal weight to the people choices and required behavioural changes. She supports them to create digital strategies that work in reality. She is also a serial entrepreneur building successful businesses from scratch into a multi-million pound endeavours in short spaces of time. Currently working on distributed ledger technology and artificial intelligence product development. An ethical AI researcher and author her passion is to work with executives to develop their understanding of disruptive technologies so that they can develop rock strategies which give them a competitive advantage. Alexsis is an author, Chartered IT Professional, prize-winning psychologist, entrepreneur, and placed in the top four for Change Management in the UK Management and Leadership Awards.
