About this event

Priority habitats form part of the UK’s commitment to the International Convention on Biodiversity. Each country must define and then take action to protect and restore these habitats, which in England include rivers, lakes and various wetlands. Mapping for rivers and lakes is being refined, and the mapping will be used to influence both the new Nature Strategy being developed by Defra to succeed Biodiversity 2020, and River Basin Management Plans that will guide delivery to improve the status of our waters.

A new website and data portal has been developed to explain the work that has been taking place (click ‘learn more’) and to give stakeholders the opportunity to help refine these maps, showing both the official priority habitat maps and associated maps of river and lake restoration priorities.

Catchment Partnerships and others can share their knowledge or observations on particular sites via the data portal to help improve the maps and, when moderated, they will be available through the CaBA open data portal for use in partnerships’ Catchment Plans, storymaps and web-pages.

Join this webinar to learn more about:

  • The river and lake priority habitat mapping work
  • The new priority habitat website and data portal
  • How CaBA Partnerships and others can get involved, sharing knowledge and helping to identify priorities for river and lake restoration

The webinar will also introduce some of the latest data, tools and resources available to support habitat restoration and nature recovery including the:

  • New National Habitat Network Datasets and Nature Recovery Network Toolbox
  • Tools and resources available from the River Restoration Centre
  • Tools for prioritisation of hydromorphological restoration
  • CaBA Biodiversity Pack and Data Package
