Data Protection law can be the source of much anxiety when working in the charity sector, partly because a lot of the training out there is tick-box online training that simply doesn’t cut it. This might explain why many common practices in the charity sector are unlawful (like big multi-agency meetings, over-the-top IT systems, and the annual rough sleeper street count etc.).
Data Protection Law not only ensures that support is delivered with a genuinely person-centred approach, maximising the control that individuals have over their support and housing options, but it also can be used directly to get people statutory homelessness assistance.
This course is designed to equip professionals to understand the key concepts of Data Protection Law and to avoid common pitfalls that could easily result in breaches. The training puts case studies at the centre of the material so that legal jargon can be avoided as much as possible.
On completion of this course you will have:
· An awareness and basic understanding of the key areas of Data Protection Legislation required to protect individuals’ privacy and control over their life.
· An understanding of the legal definitions of the law like special category data, breaches, privacy notice, right of access and lawful bases to process data.
· The information needed to know when a breach might be likely and how to minimise its risk.
· A practical understanding of how an individual can exert control over the support they receive.
· How Data Protection Law overlaps with Homelessness Law
This course will be suitable for new and experienced frontline workers and managers of services that regularly have contact with homeless people.
The course costs £65 per delegate. Discounts are available for block bookings.
We also deliver bespoke training on request – we will meet with you in advance of the training to establish what areas you want to focus on.
