Data Protection Practitioner (GDPR) course - CPD Certified - £849.00
Overview
This two-day, in-person course provides a detailed and practical understanding of the key areas of data protection, covering the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. It explains the similarities and the differences between these laws and gives you the knowledge and confidence to apply them in real situations.
The course begins with a focused review of the GDPR, reinforcing your understanding of its core principles, the rights of data subjects, international transfers, and the requirements of an effective compliance framework. You will explore the purpose and operation of Data Subject Access Requests, the exemptions that may apply, and the legal tests involved in determining what constitutes a reasonable search. Case law examples are used throughout to build your practical understanding.
Across the two days you will also examine the role and responsibilities of the Data Protection Officer, the authority and powers of Supervisory Authorities, and the consequences of non-compliance. A significant element of the course is dedicated to data breaches, including how they occur, how to recognise them, when notification is required, and how to manage them through a structured and defensible process. You will learn how to document compliance and how a robust data breach policy supports accountability.
The course provides detailed guidance on Data Protection Impact Assessments, explaining when they are required, how to assess risks, and how to structure a DPIA so that it can withstand regulatory scrutiny. You will apply the learning through worked examples, building the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to DPIA processes within your organisation.
Each major topic concludes with a short assessment requiring a sixty per cent pass mark, helping you to consolidate your understanding as you progress.
By the end of the two days you will have a strong grasp of the legal, organisational, and practical elements of data protection. You will be able to manage SARs with confidence, support your organisation during a data breach, contribute to compliance programmes, and act as an effective member of any data privacy or governance team.
