Event description

Description

A one-day introductory level workshop to explore all things data protection – including how it affects you as an employee, the research-funding organisation you work for, as well as the wider research community. The workshop is suitable for anyone working in a medical research funding organisation.

Data protection is an ongoing issue for the charity and wider research-funding sector, with little specific advice or shared policies in place. Recent press articles have served to highlight potential inadequacies in the way in which data are handled in the sector.

Two main areas of support are needed: 1) within a research funding organisation– what governance documents and polices need to be in place to ensure that data are handled appropriately, and 2) externally – in the research community and how the new regulation on data protection (GDPR) will influence the research environment in which you fund.

Attendees will also get a chance to pitch their questions to expert panels, meet others working in the field, and have the opportunity to share and exchange their policies and ways of working.
