DAUGHTERS OF IGBO WOMAN MEMORIAL FILM EXHIBIT: GREENBANK CEMETERY

26th & 27th August 2017 Greenbank Cemetery Supervisors Lodge 10:30am - 4:00pm


DAUGHTERS OF IGBO WOMAN brings to public attention a little known 18th century African woman Frances (Fumnanya) Coker 1767-1820 & her mother Adaeze & grandmother Ojiugo. Resurrected stories from the Pinney archives rejoins & gives voice to this family now made visible in a memorial trilogy of digital films made in (UK, Nigeria & Nevis respectively).


Three commemorative films shot in landscapes of Eastern Nigeria, Nevis & Greenbank cemetery give voice to Frances in the UK, her mother Adaeze in Nevis & her Igbo grandmother Ojiugo. The films illustrate the journey of her family across 3 continents; from the village of her grandmother Ojiugo in Igboland to the Nevis plantation that the young Adaeze was to work on in the Caribbean and finally the Bristol Cemetery in which Fanny now rests.


In remembrance of Fanny Coker (1767-1820) we invite you to witness this film exhibit at Greenbank Cemetery Lodge, close by to where Fanny Coker is buried.


Daughters of Igbo Woman marks 250 years since Fanny’s Coker’s birth in Nevis.
