It was reported that the number of UK businesses exporting goods to the EU fell by a third (2020-2021) according to new data from HMRC, due to the extra red tape when exporting to the EU. Numerous businesses have simply ceased trading due to the loss of the EU market.

David Henig is Director of the UK Trade Policy Project at the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE) - an independent policy think tank dedicated to trade and international economic policy issues:
