“I believe that the very process of looking can make a thing beautiful.”
- Hockney
Hockney is a prolific artist and describes his job as ‘picture maker’ - a humble description for one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. Across his 60 year career he has created thousands of drawings, painting, prints, collages and artist books. He is a renowned draftsman but has explored many different mediums which often feed into his paintings and drawings.
For this class, tutor Frances Stanfield will be guiding you through Hockney’s process and ways of working with large scale paintings and detailed landscapes, often fragmenting and breaking them down, using photography to capture numerous viewpoints. We will also be delving into his world of dense woods and the Yorkshire’s countryside.
YOU WILL NEED:
- 12 x pieces of paper (preferably A3/A2 but any size will do)
- a pencil or pen
