Description

David Laws is Executive Chairman of the Education Policy Institute (EPI). Prior to taking on this role, between 2010 and 2015 David served in the Coalition Government as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Schools Minister, and Cabinet Office Minister.

Whilst Schools Minister David was responsible for policy areas including all capital and revenue funding, the Pupil Premium, accountability and policy on teachers and leadership. He now leads the EPI, an independent, impartial, and evidence-based research institute that promotes high quality education outcomes, regardless of social background. It was named Think Tank of the Year at the 2017 Public Affairs Awards.

In this lecture he will explore the role of education research in policy making, bringing his wide-ranging expertise and experience. David is the latest in a series of high-profile figures to give the King's Education Lecture, hosted by the School of Education, Communication & Society. Previous speakers include Jonathan Freedland and Michael Rosen.
