WORD FACTORY PRESENTS:
Sublime Women, a celebration of classic and contemporary short story writers.
This is the seventh masterclass of our Sublime women series, linking classes, salons, our reading club and offering opportunities to hear your work throughout the year.
Prize-winning author David Vann, whose novels have won 15 prizes and appeared on 75 best books of the year lists in a dozen countries, chooses two of the greatest twentieth century American female short story writers to bring to our October masterclass.
Both Porter and O’Connor dealt with difficult themes in their writing: O’Connor examining questions of morality and ethics through her Roman Catholic faith and Porter the worlds of betrayal, death and the origins of human evil.
David Vann is an inspirational teacher. His insights into the work of both authors will shed new light on your own writing.
In this class, David will invite discussion of suggested texts recommended in advance and will be explroing craft-related questions about each including style, characterisation and dramatic structure, offering his own perspectives on the keys to successful short story writing.
Expect to be challenged. There will be no writing exercises in this class.
Class limited to 20 places.
