Dawn Chorus Breakfast
Sat 15 April 2017, 05:00 – 08:00 BST
Join us this spring at the height of migration season to experience the wetlands’ magnificent birdsong orchestra as the sun rises up over the reeds and the rest of London is still under their duvets.
Every year the morning airwaves come alive as the annual Dawn Chorus reaches its crescendo. Returning migrant males battle it out with resident males by singing their hearts out to defend their territory and attract the female of the species. With spring in full swing, the reserve has come to life with flowering plants and other wildlife allowing a rare opportunity to experience this magnificent avian ritual at the height of Woodberry Wetlands glory.
Early risers are in for a treat on this magical, musical tour led by our expert guides who will steer you in the right direction in identifying the various species making their contribution to the morning’s soundtrack. You're likely to hear calls and birdsong from a wide range of species, including then Chaffinch, various Warblers & Wagtails, Coal and Long-Tailed tits, Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Lapwings who will be sure to be amongst the choir.
The early start is well worth it as the birdsong at daybreak this time of year is a marvel of the natural world not to be missed. Following the guided walk, a light continental breakfast with hot drinks and juices will be served at the Coal House Café to help you warm up from the chill of the morning air.
This event is suitable for ages 14+
