Event description

Description

The Hepworth Wakefield has recently won the Art Fund's prestigious Museum of the Year Award. Will Gompertz has described the gallery as “one of the most exciting places for the study and display of modern to contemporary sculpture in Europe”. There will be guided group tours of the rooms devoted to Barbara Hepworth’s life and work and the exhibition Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Following this, there will be some free time with the opportunity to visit other parts of the gallery including the exhibition Howard Hodgkin: Painting India. A light lunch will then be served in the gallery cafeteria (included in the ticket price).

In the afternoon we shall visit the nearby National Trust property of Nostell Priory, famous for its Adam decoration and Chippendale furniture. Amongst many art treasures is the masterpiece by Pieter Breughel The Procession to Calvary, saved for the nation with a successful Art Fund appeal in 2010.

The coach will depart from the Bowes Museum at 8,45 am with a pick-up at the Scotch Corner Hotel at 9.15 am.
