Description

A Day Retreat with Martin Aylward

MARTIN AYLWARD began practising Dharma aged 19, spending several years in Asian Buddhist monasteries and with Himalayan hermits. He is co-founder and resident teacher at Moulin de Chaves Retreat Centre in France, and of online Dharma platform WorldwideInsight.org. Martin directs teacher training at Mindfulness Training Institute and leads retreats worldwide. For information on his teachings and schedule visit MartinAylward.com

What to bring

Lunch to share: We eat together, often in silence on day retreats, please bring a vegetarian dish to contribute. Cutlery and plates are available at the venue.

Cushions to sit on: Bring anything you will need to be comfortable sitting, meditation cushions, pillows, a mat to sit on, a blanket etc. There are chairs available if you would like to sit on a chair.

A Mug: It would be really helpful if you could bring your own mug as that is one thing the venue is short of.

Dana: Dana translates as generosity, in this spirit the teachers offer these teachings for free. As students we are also given the opportunity to practice generosity by offering financial contributions to the teachers. The livelihood of most teachers depends wholly, or to a large extent, on the generosity and voluntary contributions from retreatants who value their guidance and wish to support the ongoing teachings of the Dharma. There will be a chance for you to donate to the teacher and also the organisers at the end of the day. Please bring cash for this. There are no guidelines to what you should donate.

What to expect

A day of meditation practise, often with periods of guided sitting meditation, walking meditation, a dharma talk, space for questions. The days are led by a teacher, so the structure may vary. Some teachers may invite us to take part in inquiry: a meditative reflective practise in pairs. Retreat days are suitable for all levels of experience
