Date and time

Mon, 21 Jan 2019 14:00 - 16:30 GMT

Location

Westminster Room

18 Smith Square London SW1P 3HZ United Kingdom

Description

You will be aware that a consultation on fair funding and business rates was launched alongside the provisional local government settlement last week

To ensure that the DCN can collate the views of its wider membership in shaping its response, we will be hosting a technical DCN seminar on the consultation to inform our response. This will be held on Monday 21st January from 2.00-4.30 at the LGA HQ in 18 Smith Square. The format of this will be an overview MHCLG of the consultation, analysis by LG futures on the wider impact for districts followed by group sessions to get views on the themes of the consultation to feed into our response.

This event is open to appropriate finance leads from DCN Member Councils only.

The emerging messages will be shared at the DCN Conference being held on 7 and 8 February.

Please note that attendees must register for this event for capacity reasons. There will be a limit on available places so can we ask for one representative per authority, and please note places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

To ensure that we get the most from the seminar we would encourage participants to read the consultation documents in advance of the event at the following links:

The District Councils’ Network (DCN) is a cross-party member led network of 183 councils. We are a Special Interest Group of the Local Government Association (LGA), and provide a single voice for district councils within the Local Government Association.

District councils in England deliver 86 out of 137 essential local government services to over 22 million people – 40% of the population – and cover 68% of the country by area.

District councils have a proven track record of building better lives and stronger economies in the areas that they serve. Districts protect and enhance quality of life by safeguarding our environment, promoting public health and leisure, whilst creating attractive places to live, raise families and build a stronger economy. By tackling homelessness and promoting wellbeing, district councils ensure no one gets left behind by addressing the complex needs of today whilst attempting to prevent the social problems of tomorrow.
