A one day conference to highlight the scientific and technological challenges and solutions for De-carbonisation of the Northern Powerhouse

About this Event

A Joint Meeting of the Yorkshire Geological Society and the Yorkshire Philosophical Society, contributing to the Geological Society of London Year of Carbon, 2019

Convened by a team from the British Geological Survey, University of Hull School of Environmental Sciences and the Council of the Yorkshire Geological Society, the meeting will include a series of illustrated lectures on the scientific, economic and social challenges and potential solutions for de-carbonisation, embracing the following themes:

  • Energy Storage (including compressed air storage)
  • Carbon sequestration in soils and rocks
  • Hydrogen replacement of natural gas
  • Bio-energy and environmental impacts
  • UK forests as carbon sinks
  • Geothermal energy from mine water and deep aquifers
  • De-carbonising transport and supply of minerals for electric vehicles
