De-desk Yourself: Yoga for Office Workers

Yoga Hero has designed a programme of three workshops to help office workers 'de-desk'. These workshops serve to help to decrease stress levels, improve posture, and generally promote a sense of over all wellbeing. Each workshop is very useful on it's own, or come to all three for a comprehensive introduction to feeling physically and mentally well at work.



1) Yin Yoga for Anxiety and Stress Relief, 19th September

This wonderful Yin Yoga workshop will focus on reducing anxiety and stress.


A gentle start, strong focus on the breath, and some of our delicious Yin Yoga poses will provide calm and comfort; even when things feel like they are really getting on top of you.


Yin Yoga is suitable for absolutely everyone. We'll take time to set up each pose so it's just right for you, and then there's time to marinate in the pose... Sometimes this is tough, but learning to overcome the mental chatter around this challenge is something that we can take off the mat and in to challenges in life.


This extra time dedicated solely to you, helps to put you at front and centre of your thoughts and actions; which can be indulgent, and empowering; just what you need what you're suffering from anxiety and stress.


What we think can have an impact on how we feel in our body, and impact on our posture. We hold our emotional patterning in our fascia (connective tissue). In Yin Yoga, we bring our attention to this tissue, and work to create space and room for movement, which then 'undoes' these postural habits, and the associated thought patterns and emotions. Expect to feel grounded, able to let go of negativity and to see things differently.



2) De-desk Yourself, 3rd October

This is an active and challenging yoga session designed to strengthen the core, open the hips and release tension from the shoulders.


Many of us spend eight hours or more, five days a week, hunched over a desk. This can pull the whole body out of its natural, and preferred alignment, which can then affect how you think, your energy levels, your digestive system, and a whole lot more.


This workshop is designed to combat and undo the effects of working at a desk; helping you to feel alive and revitalised, switched on, more confident and more efficient! Learn short sequences that you can repeat at home to build strength and flexibility, and to build good posture for the hours of desk work.


Expect a challenging session, with take away tools and techniques, suitable for all levels of fitness and for total beginners to yoga!


3) Yoga and Mindfulness at Work, 17th October

This session is designed to help you release both mental and physical tension whilst at work.


We’ll enjoy a challenging yoga session including neck and shoulder tension releasing poses that you can do at your desk, at anytime! This will be followed by some simple mindfulness techniques, which will aim to:

* increase your ability to relax
* increase your energy and enthusiasm for life
* heighten your self-confidence
* increase your ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.


This session is suitable for all levels of fitness and for total beginners to yoga.
