De-Risking Development - Managing Soil
Date and time
Location
The Royal Society of Edinburgh
22-26 George Street Edinburgh EH2 2PQ United KingdomDescription
IKM’s Geo-environmental team is hosting a series of three breakfast seminars around the theme of de-risking development. Experienced members of our team will be discussing key issues facing developments and offering insight into how to manage the associated risk to both programme and cost.
The three seminars will cover:
- Tuesday 23rd May - Understanding Ground Conditions
- Tuesday 20th June - Managing Soil
- Tuesday 11th July - Understanding Ecology
Understanding Ground Conditions
Not everyone is an expert when it comes to understanding ground conditions; this can lead to project delays and overspend. In this seminar, we will review why we undertake desk studies and preliminary site works, the benefits of adopting a phased approach, and how the information gathered during these early phases can be used to scope the ground investigation, inform the masterplan, and aid in discussions with the Regulators.
Managing Soil
With nearly 20 years in the contaminated land sector, we know a fair bit about the management of soil! From remediation options and site waste management plans, to WAC samples and Waste Management Exemption licences, this will give an insight into potential ways of managing contaminated soils, and excess material, whilst maintaining legal compliance.
Understanding Ecology
This seminar will look at the identification and management of ecological constraints, from initial assessment, protected species surveying and mitigation. We will discuss programming of work to avoid programme delays and costs, the risks associated with ecology, the seasonality of various surveys and potential mitigation options.
Hot breakfast rolls, Danish pastries and tea & coffee will be provided.
