Description
Our workshops support instructors and coaches to ensure deaf young people are fully included in aquatic activities.
Instructors and coaches will learn how to make small & simple changes to make activities deaf-friendly and develop confidence communicating with deaf children and young people.
Instructors will also learn basic British Sign Language and watersport specific signs.
The training will cover:
- The impact of deafness on young people
- Communication methods
- How to adapt your activities
- Tips for welcoming deaf children
- Guidance on engaging with deaf children in your area
- Fingerspelling
- British Sign Language specific to watersports

What are my transport /parking options for getting to and from the training?
Castle Semple is in Lochwinnoch. Car parking is available at the centre.

Lochwinnoch railway station is around a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi journey.
Please note: if coming by train from Glasgow there is a set of stairs to get off the platform, those who need assistance are advised to contact Scotrail to make arrangements.
Are refreshments available?
Yes, there is a cafe to purchase hot and cold drinks and snacks. Water will be provided.
Can I give my place to a friend or colleague if I can't come?
Yes, however you must notify us in advance, at least 5 days before the workshop takes place via swimming@ndcs.org.uk
