Event description

The National Deaf Children’s Society in partnership Scottish Disability Sport are holding a Deaf Friendly Swimming, Come Try Day for multi watersports!

Deaf young people 10yrs and above have the chance to try; canoeing, sailing, kayaking, power boating, bell boating and cycling.

Come and experience different sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment with help from fully qualified deaf-aware instructors.

Communication support will be provided and the event is completely free for deaf children. Hearing siblings are also welcome to attend.

What age is this event suitable for?

Deaf young people of 9 years and older - we recommend that the session is most suitable for 10 - 18 year olds as it is easier to handle the boats when they are little bit older.

Is this event suitable for non-swimmers?

We recommend that young people are water confident and able to swim 20m to take part in this session. Life jackets will be provided to all participants.

Can hearing siblings attend?

Yes! Hearing siblings are welcome to attend. Please also register them on this page.

Do parents / carers need to go on the water?

No, parents do not go on the water for this event. The children will be supervised on the water by the Castle Semple team with extra supervision and communication support provided by NDCS.

Do parents / carers need to stay on site?

Yes. The NDCS team cannot take responsibility for medication or valuables on the day, so we ask that parents / carers stay on site throughout the entire session.

Parents / carers are welcome to join the deaf young people on power boat rides, if time and equipment allows.
