The event is open to deaf 8 – 18 year olds who can swim 25 metres +.

The gala is running in partnership with GB Deaf Swimming and there will be an opportunity to see the GB Deaf Swimming team in action in the pool before jumping in for some fun.

FAQs

What age is this event suitable for?

Deaf young people of all ages are welcome to attend - we recommend that the gala is most suitable for 8 - 16 year olds.

My child can swim but they have never taken part in a competition before - can they enter?

Yes! We absolutely welcome first-time competitors, this is a relaxed gala with lots of support and encouragement so it is a great way to find out what a swimming gala is like without the pressure of a regular competition.

Is this event suitable for non-swimmers?

We recommend that young people are able to swim 25 metres+ unaided (one length of a swimming pool) to take part.

Can hearing siblings attend?

Yes - hearing siblings are welcome to attend.

Do parents / carers need to go in the water?

No, parents do not go in the water. The children will be supervised in the water by fully qualified lifeguards with extra supervision and communication support provided by NDCS.

Do parents / carers need to stay on site?

Yes. Unfortunately the NDCS team cannot take responsibility for medication or valuables while the children are with us, so we ask that parents / carers stay on site throughout the session.
