Event description
Join Wigan Council and the LGC to find out more about Wigan's award-winning approach to public service reform.

About this Event

“This council has pioneered a new operating model, working collaboratively with its residents to make a tangible difference to their lives. Its leadership has depth and is always eager to disseminate innovation, providing a blueprint for British local government and beyond.”

This was how the LGC judges summed up Wigan Council and ‘The Deal’ as they were awarded ‘LGC Council of the Year 2019’ in March. The award was the culmination of almost ten years of hard work, challenges and innovation to transform the council’s relationship with citizens and staff culture to deliver improved services and save £140m, all through the principles of The Deal.

The third Deal Conference will be held in Wigan on Monday 7th October and is a fantastic opportunity for partners from across local government, health and beyond to learn from Wigan’s journey.

The conference will be in partnership with the LGC and will feature keynote speeches by senior leaders involved in The Deal, a panel discussion of national experts from across local government and health and an afternoon of engaging and varied workshops designed specifically to help delegates take away learning. Speakers will include Nick Golding (LGC), Mark Lloyd (LGA), Dan Wellings (Kings Fund), Sacha Lord (Greater Manchester Night Time Economy Adviser), Frances Jones (Centre for Local Economic Strategies) and David Fillingham (Chair of Healthier Wigan Partnership). Workshops on the day will include working with communities to deliver public sector reform; integrating Health and Social Care ; embedding the “BeWigan” principles in our workforce and balancing our books.

So come along for a warm Wigan welcome at what will be a celebration of the talent and resilience of local government and a rich sharing of views on what the future holds for this brilliant and innovative sector.
